<b>CHAPEL HILL, N.C.</b> — The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will test its emergency sirens on Tuesday between noon and 1 p.m.

People outdoors on or near the campus may hear an alert tone followed by a public address message. After the test, and &quot;all clear&quot; message will be broadcast.

The Alert Carolina system includes the sirens, which are designated for use in emergency situations such as an armed and dangerous person on or near campus, a major chemical spill or hazard, or a tornado sighting.
