MIDDLESEX, N.C. — A bridge near the Wake-Johnston county line was expected to reopen early Tuesday afternoon following a wreck late Monday, officials said.

Troopers said a woman who was checking her GPS display ran off U.S. Highway 264 Alternate near its intersection with N.C. Highway 39 and hit the bridge railing.

About 40 feet of the railing was damaged, forcing the state Department of Transportation to close the bridge so crews could make repairs.

The driver will face charges in the wreck, troopers said.
