FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Two women were shot Friday afternoon at a Fayetteville apartment complex, police said.

The shooting at Tera Gardens Apartments, at 233 Law Road, occurred at about 3:15 p.m. A man forced his way into an apartment and shot both women, police said.

Neighbors told WRAL News that the gunman is the boyfriend of one of the women and that the couple’s small son was inside the apartment when she was shot.

The two women were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where they were listed in serious condition.

Police located a car about 4 miles away on Murchison Road that matched the description of a vehicle seen leaving the apartment complex, but the man wasn't inside. Officers detained two women in the car for questioning.

No other information was available.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Detective T. Aughburns with the Fayetteville Police Department at 910-703-1166 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.
