Two Women Killed in Interstate 95 Accident

— A mother and daughter were killed in an accident on Interstate 95 in Johnston County.

At about 6:50 a.m. Saturday, a tractor-trailer and a Saturn were traveling southbound on I-95 towards the Benson exit.

The Highway Patrol said Gail Salter, 50, was trying to pull off the interstate when her car was rear-ended by the tractor-trailer. Both vehicles ran off the road and hit a culvert.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured. Salter and her mother, Catherine, 75, were killed. They were from Plainfield, New Jersey. The truck driver's name was not released.

The Highway Patrol said the investigation is ongoing.
