Two women killed after vehicle lands in creek

Two Raleigh women have died after the car in which they were traveling went off the road and landed in a creek.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Two Raleigh women have died after the car in which they were traveling went off the road and landed in a creek.

State troopers said a 2004 Honda Pilot SUV ran off Fayetteville Road, near Brookwood Drive, overturned and went down an embankment to land in Swift Creek at about 4 p.m. Saturday.

Paula Joan Wheeler, 73, Joyce Underwood Horton, 69, and Cayden Henderson, 10, were inside the vehicle, troopers said.

Wheeler, who was in the front passenger seat, died Saturday, troopers said.

Horton, who was driving the Honda, died Sunday afternoon from her injuries at WakeMed, troopers said.

Cayden, of Duncan, was treated and released from the hospital. Horton was his grandmother.

Cayden's dog was also in the vehicle and hasn't been seen since the crash. They family is searching for the dog, a brown Dachshund named Simon.
