Two weekend shootings reported in Carrboro

Two shootings occurred within 24 hours of the other in Carrboro over the weekend.

CARRBORO, N.C. — Two shootings occurred within 24 hours of the other in Carrboro over the weekend.

The first shooting occurred Saturday around 7:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Carrboro Plaza, located at 104 N.C. Highway 54. Police responded to the shopping center and found one man with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to UNC Hospital and treated.

Police officers said the man got into an argument with another person, who shot him. The shooter fled the scene in a vehicle.

A third person, who was with the victim, fired shots at the car driving away, striking a car belonging to an onlooker.

The incident appeared to be isolated, police said.

The second shooting occurred around 6 p.m. on Sunday in the area of N.C. 54 and Jones Ferry Road. The victims were driving on N.C. 54 and said, as they were exiting, a speeding car overtook them and stopped in front of them on the exit ramp. A person exited the vehicle and fired multiple shots at their car before speeding away.

No one was injured, but the car was damaged.

The motive is unknown.

The shootings appear to be unrelated.
