NC 12 in Outer Banks remains closed, tropical moisture arrives Thursday

N.C. Highway 12 remains closed in the Outer Banks due to overwash from Teddy, now a post-tropical cyclone, and remnants from another storm will bring more rain to North Carolina on Thursday and Friday.

Beta has weakened from a tropical depression to a post-tropical cyclone, but the threat for flooding still remains for Texas and Louisiana from the storm. Beta's remnants will move over Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi Wednesday and Thursday, bringing rain to North Carolina as early as Thursday night.

WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said Friday will be the wettest day for us, possibly a "washout." Although a 30% chance for rain lingers for Saturday and Sunday, much of the weekend will be dry.

Less than 2 inches of rain is expected to fall in the Triangle and Sandhills, with slightly more rain to our north. Storms and flooding should not be an issue, although meteorologists will be closely watching the system.

Street flooding was reported in parts of the Houston area, where officials performed nearly 100 water rescues on city roadways since Monday.

Teddy also weakened to a post-tropical cyclone and is expected to make landfall near Nova Scotia sometime Wednesday. Although the storm has weakened, it will continue to generate large swells and life-threatening rip currents for the East Coast.

Paulette is also a post-tropical cyclone for the second time. The storm is expected to weaken and shouldn't have any major impacts to land.

For only the second time in recorded history, all of the possible hurricane names have been used up this season, and we still have 10 weeks to go. Any further storms will be named according to the Greek alphabet.
