BURLINGTON, N.C. — Two people are in the hospital after police say they crashed after engaged in a street race in Burlington Saturday morning.

Burlington Police responded to the area of Maple Ave. and Quintas Ave. regarding a two-vehicle collision. Officers determined that speed was a contributing factor for the collision. Both drivers were juveniles under the age of 18 and they were transported to area hospitals and listed in stable condition.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the drivers were engaged in a speed competition, based on witness statements and physical evidence. The roadway was partially blocked for almost five hours.
