Two students found with gun at Garner High
Two Garner Magnet High School students were detained Thursday morning, and authorities found a gun in their possession, officials said.
Posted — UpdatedLaw enforcement officers suspected the students, ages 16 and 14, were involved in a Wednesday night burglary in which a gun was stolen, officials said.
On Wednesday morning, one of the students fled when approached by Garner High's school resource officer, but he and the other student were quickly apprehended, officials said.
Caleb Douglas Prescott, 16, was charged with possession of a weapon on school property, and the 14-year-old will be charged through a juvenile petition, police said.
"While we have no reason to believe these students intended to harm anyone at school, please be assured that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken to protect our students and our campus," Principal Carter Hillman said in a phone message to parents.
