Two rescued from vehicle after hydroplaning on US-1, crashing into trees
Crews are responding to a crash in Cary on US-1 by Tryon Road.
Posted — UpdatedCrews responded to a serious crash early Memorial Day morning, closing down a ramp and lane on US-1 southbound in Cary by Tryon Road.
Police say their early investigation indicates the driver, 23-year-old Hannah Eubanks, was speeding when she hydroplaned on the wet roadway and lost control of the vehicle. The red Jeep Renegade flew off the slick roadway and crashed into the trees around 5 a.m.
Rescue crews had to remove Eubanks and a passenger from the vehicle.
Police say both were taken to the hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.
It is not yet known whether alcohol was a factor in this crash, police say.
Traffic was impacted by the closure of a lane on US-1; however, after about an hour, only the on-ramp was still closed.
