DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police were investigating two shootings that happened Wednesday.

Officials said the first shooting happened on Junction Road. Officers responded to a sound of shots being fired call around 4:45 p.m. One person was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound, which was considered non-life-threatening.

Police said it appeared two vehicles were shooting at each other when the victim was hit. It was unclear if the victim was in one of the vehicles or just standing in the road when they were shot.

One witness who works at a nearby business said he heard around 20 shots, and it sounded like it was an automatic weapon used.

Junction Road was closed for a period of time as police collected evidence. It was reopened shortly before 6 p.m.

Another shooting was reported Wednesday night in the 400 block of East Pilot Street. Police said a man was hit by a bullet at 9:44 p.m.

The victim, who was not identified, was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police believe he was just standing outside when he was hit by a bullet from a passing vehicle.

Police were still investigating both incidents Wednesday night.
