ERWIN, N.C. — Charges are pending in an early-morning crash that killed two people on Friday.

Troopers with the NC Highway Patrol said they responded to the crash at 7:13 a.m. at the intersection of Hwy. 55 and Clay Hole Road, just north of Erwin in Harnett County. A Chevy SUV driven by George Flores, 19, ran a stop sign at Clay Hole Road and slammed into a vehicle driven by Walter Tobias, 71.

Tobias and his wife, Karin Tobias, both of Linden, died at the scene. Flores was transported to Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn with non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers said impairment issues did not cause the accident, which is still under investigation.
