DURHAM, N.C. — Two people have been hospitalized after a shooting led to head-on car collision in Durham Saturday.

According to the Highway Patrol, one of the victims got shot while driving along Highway 70 around 1:30 p.m. He then crashed head-on with another car, which was not involved with the shooting.

Investigators say a Volkswagen sedan was traveling eastbound on Highway 70 when an unknown occupant traveling in a second car, a white passenger vehicle, fired several shots into oncoming traffic, causing the sedan to collide with a van.

Witnesses say the white passenger vehicle fled the scene on Highway 70 toward Wake County.

Officers say the shooting victim was struck once in the hip and that at least one of the two victims is in surgery.

No other information is available as the investigation into this incident continues.
