FORT BRAGG, N.C. — One paratrooper is in critical condition Wednesday after landing in a neighborhood near Fort Bragg.

In a midnight update, Army officials said the accident happened during routine training on Tuesday.

The two paratroopers landed on homes in Hoke County yesterday afternoon.

The Army said one soldier landed on top of a home on Weston Woods Street. The other trooper landed at a house on Yates Mill Street.

Training was temporarily suspended following the incident, which remains under investigation.

"We want to extend our gratitude to the local authorities and members of the community who immediately responded to provide assistance," Lessard said.

It's unclear what training exercise the paratroopers were doing at the time or what exactly went wrong.
