HENDERSON, N.C. — Police arrested a Henderson man Tuesday afternoon in connection with the shooting deaths of two people at the Scottish Inns motel earlier this month.

Edward Hawkins, 26, of 1664 Tripp St., was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and placed in the Vance County jail without bond.

Police say Hawkins shot Jerome Kearney, 33, and Kenya Odessa Hodges, 34, both of Henderson, at the motel, at 1759 N. Garnett St. Their bodies were found by officers around 3:15 a.m. on Feb. 16.

Police have said that Kearney and Hodges knew each other, but their relationship was not disclosed. It wasn't clear whether the victims knew Hawkins, however.

No other information, including a possible motive, has been released.
