Two people were killed in a crash that involved a tractor-trailer Tuesday night in Wayne County.

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. — Two people were killed in a crash that involved a tractor-trailer Tuesday night in Wayne County, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly after 8:45 p.m. at N.C. Highway 55 and Thunder Swamp Road in the Mount Olive area when a westbound Jeep driven by Colby Rayne Barnard crossed the center line of N.C. 55 and collided with a tractor-trailer, authorities said.

Barnard, 18, of Hobucken, and his passenger, 20-year-old Nathan Hayes Toler, also of Hobucken, died at the scene, authorities said.

The truck driver, Jeffery Guy Mathews, 63, of LaGrange, wasn't hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.
