DURHAM, N.C. — Two people were injured in a single-vehicle wreck that shut down all southbound lanes of Interstate 85 for about two hours on Wednesday, authorities said.

The wreck occurred at mile marker 171, near the Durham Freeway interchange, at about 2 p.m. when a car driven by Erica Alston, of Durham, ran off of the road and struck a guardrail before spinning out.

Her passenger, Brent Whitted, 23, also of Durham, was thrown from the car.

Alston and Whitted were taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment. Their conditions were not available.

The wreck remains under investigation.
