The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office announced two arrests Wednesday in separate cases of crimes against children.

The first incident happened in August 2011, when detectives responded to Pitt Memorial Hospital for a report about a child with serious physical injuries. An investigation led to the arrest of Tony Orlando Whitaker Jr., 21, from Enfield.

Whitaker was charged with felony child abuse and held at the Halifax County jail under a $30,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 17.

In the second case, Littleton police arrested Carlton Stanley Lee, 60, on Sept. 15. Lee was wanted on an outstanding warrant from the sheriff’s office for a charge of indecent liberties with a child.

Lee was held at the Halifax County Detention Center under a $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 17.

The sheriff’s office did not provide more information on either case.
