A father of one of the victims told WRAL the man was shot to death. The father identified his son as 25-year-old Desmond Brewington. The woman who was killed is Julie Camacho, Brewington's mother.

Neighbor Amber Barnhill and her boyfriend discovered the bodies laying in the grass behind the apartment building. The neighborhood was described by friends as tight-knit and many were distraught at the news.

"I knew I didn't want to walk up too close onto them," Barnhill said. "I didn't want to see something. I know a lot of people in this neighborhood and I didn't want it to be someone I knew."

Two people were found dead in Hope Mills on Wednesday.

Hope Mills Police are leading the investigation. SBI and Cumberland County Sheriff's Office were also on the scene. Authorities are investigating the case as a double homicide. Even though authorities don't have a suspect in custody, they don't believe this shooting was a random act.

Police believe the community is not under any lingering threat. If you live in the area and recall seeing anything suspicious Tuesday night, you're asked to give Hope Mills police a call.
