ERWIN, N.C. — Two Erwin firefighters had minor injuries battling a construction debris fire Wednesday that got out of control and burned a structure that was being worked on.

Officials told WRAL's Rosalia Fodera some men were building a doublewide home and were burning construction debris when the fire got out of control. The fire then spread to the frame of the house, which burned down.

WRAL's Julian Grace reports one of the two firefighters had a twisted ankle but nothing more serious.

"Please don’t ... we don’t need that," said John Wilkins, assistant chief of the Erwin Fire Department, about the fire. "We have enough going on. We don’t need illegal burns going on."

There were three departments and 21 firefighters on the scene of the fire Wednesday evening.

The fire marshal is investigating, and it was unclear if there would be any charges or citations filed.
