MORRISVILLE, N.C. — Nobody was injured when a car was struck by an Amtrak train Tuesday afternoon in Morrisville.

Authorities said the vehicle was on the tracks in the left turning lane of McCrimmon Parkway when the train signal activated at about 3:15 p.m.

Two people inside the vehicle were able to escape prior to the crash, authorities said. Officials have not yet said why the vehicle stopped on the train tracks, but said no mechanical issues were reported.

The train, which was headed toward Cary, stopped shortly after the crash.

McCrimmon parkway was closed between N.C. Highway 54/Chapel Hill Road and Church Street for about three hours while crews worked to clear the scene of the crash.
