For the 20th year, Henderson, NC, will be the proud home of the Show, Shine, Shag & Dine Antique and Classic Car Show. This event will be held on October 14th and 15th, 2022, in downtown Henderson and will feature various activities for the whole family. The car show will include a variety of antique and classic cars from all over the country, and there will also be a truck show featuring vehicles manufactured by the former Henderson-based Corbitt Company.

Combining the event with the Corbitt Truck show is an excellent opportunity to showcase Henderson's history. The Corbitt Company built trucks in Henderson from 1899 until 1954, and is possibly best known for producing war-time vehicles for the US Army and other allied countries during the World Wars. At its height, Corbitt employed 350 people in North Carolina. While they stopped making cars in 1954, they continued to sell parts for several years before stopping this practice in the 60s. Founded in 2003, the Corbitt Preservation Society helps honor the history of the Corbitt Company. Having built tanks, buses, tractors, fire trucks, and many other vehicles during their time of operation, Corbitt’s history is deeply intertwined with the community of Henderson, making the area a perfect place to host such an event.

The Show, Shine, Shag & Dine Car Show is a community favorite, and it has become one of the largest car shows in the area, if not the east coast, and the average attendance is usually over 15,000 people according to Norman Dickerson, Tourism Program Coordinator of Vance County. Many people attend from surrounding areas in North Carolina and Virginia, but “we also pull heavily from the northeast, Pennsylvania and New Jersey,” said Dickerson. Pam Hester, Director of Tourism added, “We’ve also had people come from California and Florida as well.” "We utilize a nine or ten-block radius in the historic downtown business district, which gives us the ability to showcase hundreds of classic automobiles," said Dickerson. This unique downtown area is an ideal location for attendees to enjoy the numerous vehicles showcased at the event.

The Show, Shine, Shag & Dine Antique and Classic Car Show was first held in 2002, organized by the former Director of Tourism for Vance County, Nancy Wilson, who served the county in her role for more than 20 years. A former drag racer herself, Wilson wanted to create a new event for the community. The event was aimed to attract other former drag racers nostalgic for the ‘50s through the ‘70s, but also to appeal to a broader range of people, inspiring the antique and classic car show. For many years it was a dual event, featuring a nostalgia drag race as well as a classic car show. “After Ms. Wilson retired in 2018, the nostalgia drag racing portion of it had pretty much run its course, but the antique and classic portion of it is still going strong,” said Dickerson.

There will be a drive-in event with a caterer the day before the show begins, as well as food and music at the classic car museum in downtown Henderson during the event to excite attendees about the classic car show.

The event has something for everyone, whether you are a fan of classic cars or trucks or just want to enjoy some good food and music. If you're in the Henderson, NC, area in mid-October,, be sure to come out and enjoy the 20th annual Show, Shine, Shag & Dine antique and classic car show. It is an excellent opportunity for car enthusiasts of all ages to come together and share their love of classic cars. For more information on attending this event, click here.
