CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Two men were critically injured after leading state troopers on a high-speed overnight chase.

The chase originated before 3 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 40 in Chapel Hill, when a deputy spotted a gray Infiniti sedan traveling 133 mph in a 65 mph zone.

When the car did not stop for the deputy, a chase ensued.

The car, which was traveling west, exited I-40 onto N.C. Highway 86. When the driver tried to make a left turn onto Piney Mountain Road, he lost control of the car, leaving the roadway and crashing into a tree.

Two men inside were thrown from the car, which was heavily damaged, officials said.

The driver, Juan Aquino, 31, and Nafees Bilal, 35, were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
