CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said two children robbed a woman in Charlotte over the weekend.

During a press conference by police Monday, officers said a 12-year-old and a 6-year-old asked a woman to borrow her phone. When the woman gave them her phone, the two children ran.

According to police, the woman attempted to chase the children to retrieve her phone, at which point the 12-year-old pulled a gun on the woman and attempted to pistol-whip her.

The gun, seen below, was a BB gun, according to police, but officers said the way it looked could have made it mistaken for a real gun.

Police in Charlotte said a 12-year-old and a 6-year-old robbed a woman of her cell phone Sunday morning. When the woman tried to retrieve it, the 12-year-old pulled the gun on her.

Police said the 12-year-old is charged with armed robbery and damage to property.

Police are viewing the 6-year-old in the investigation as a victim, as he is too young to be charged in a crime.
