Two charged after Raleigh bank robbery leads to chase, crash

A bank robbery in Raleigh on Friday morning led to a police chase on Interstate 440 and a crash, police said.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A bank robbery in Raleigh on Friday morning led to a police chase on Interstate 440 and a crash, police said.

A man robbed a BB&T bank at 3000 Duraleigh Road at about 11:30 a.m., police said. No weapon was displayed, and no injuries were reported.

The robber fled the area with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police spotted a vehicle matching the description of the getaway car getting on I-440 at Glenwood Avenue and pursued it until the vehicle exited northbound onto Six Forks Road, police said. The vehicle crashed on Six Forks Road, and the occupants jumped out and ran, police said.

After a brief foot chase, the occupants were taken into custody.

Anthony Wayne Alston, 55, and Charles Aloysious Ferguson, 62, were charged with common law robbery and conspiracy to commit common law robbery in connection with the incident.
