Two charged after man found dead in street

— A man was found in the street in Fayetteville following a Sunday night shooting.

Around 11:15 p.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to a shooting on Morganton Road near South Ingleside Drive.

At the scene, officers found Michael Payne, 50, unresponsive in the roadway. Payne, who had been shot in the head, died at the scene.

Officers said Payne's car was stolen during the crime but has since been found.

Courtney McClanahan, 29, and Joseph Minacapelli, 30, were charged with felony larceny of a motor vehicle, felony possession of stolen property, felony alter/destroy criminal evidence and felony concealment/failure to report a death. Minacapelli was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

McClanahan was given a $200,000 bond and Minacapelli was given a $527,000 bond.

Both remained at the Cumberland County Detention Center.

Officers said they are waiting for results from the the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and will upgrade charges as necessary.
