Fort Bragg, N.C. — The Department of Defense on Tuesday announced the deaths of two soldiers in Afghanistan.
Spc. Corey J. Kowall, 20, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Spc. Damon G. Winkleman, 23, of Lakeville, Ohio, died Sunday in Zabul province of injuries sustained when their vehicle overturned, officials said. The incident is under investigation.
The soldiers were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. Kowall was an infantryman, while Winkleman was a medic.
Three Special Forces soldiers from Fort Bragg were killed last week in Afghanistan by a roadside bomb. More than 200 soldiers from Fort Bragg have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001.
