Two arrested in larceny, one who was wanted for crime in California

Deputies with the Robeson County Sheriff's Office have arrested two people on larceny charges, one who was wanted in California for another crime.

RED SPRINGS, N.C. — Deputies with the Robeson County Sheriff's Office have arrested two people on larceny charges, one who was wanted in California for another crime.

On Friday, Mayra Olvera, 28, and Alejandra Tapia, 41, both of Shannon was arrested by investigators with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division. The arrests stem from an incident where an investigator was following leads on an unrelated investigation when he observed a female run out of the Maxway Store in Red Springs after committing a larceny.

Deputies said the female entered her vehicle and the investigator pursued after her. The pursuit lasted less than five minutes and the females were apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

Tapia was charged with fleeing and eluding arrest with a motor vehicle, resisting a public officer and fugitive of justice. The fugitive warrant is in relation to offenses that occurred in California. Tapia is wanted in California for a charge of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.

Tapia will be extradited back to California. She was placed in the custody of Robeson County Detention Center with a $250,000 secured bond. Olvera is charged with resisting a public officer. She was given a written promise to appear.
