WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump commuted the sentence of a woman serving life in prison on a nonviolent drug conviction, White House officials said Wednesday, after reality television star Kim Kardashian West brought the case to his attention.

Although short of a full pardon, the decision by the president will free Alice Johnson, 63, who was sentenced in 1996 on charges related to cocaine possession and money laundering. Kardashian West visited the White House last week to lobby on Johnson’s behalf.
