FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The driver of a tractor-trailer has been charged in a Wednesday wreck that killed a man mowing grass on the median of Interstate 95, authorities said.

Luis Valdes, 65, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

Valdes was northbound on I-95 in Cumberland County when his rig hit two safety vehicles with flashing warning arrows and went to the left of a third near the Newton Grove exit, authorities said.

The truck then crashed into a mower operated by John Glenn McLean, 47, of Erwin. McLean died at the scene.

State troopers still haven't determined what caused the truck to run off the road.
