Authorities released corrected information Tuesday evening about a crash near Fayetteville that left two dead Sunday evening, including the county attorney in Robeson County.
Patrick Adam Pait, 34, the county attorney for Robeson County and 66-year-old Donald Allen Rightnour died in the crash on Cumberland Road, which left them pinned in their cars.
Witnesses gave police incorrect information about the wreck that was distributed to media, saying that Rightnour was at fault.
Troopers said the cars involved were roughly the same size and color, which caused witnesses to be confused.
According to officials with the State Highway Patrol, troopers looked at video surveillance from a nearby business and found that Pait was speeding and crossed the center line, hitting Rightnour head on.
Rightnour was not driving over the speed limit.
Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash.
Anyone else who may have stopped at the wreck and have information is asked to call Highway Patrol 910-486-1334.
