Trooper: Driver said flip flop issues caused car to crash into Raleigh home

A driver was charged with careless and reckless driving after his car crashed into a home in Raleigh early Sunday morning.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A driver was charged with careless and reckless driving after his car crashed into his Raleigh home early Sunday morning.

Troopers with the N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to the home on Yates Wheel Way near Tryon Road and Yates Mill Pond Road around midnight.

According to officials, the driver told troopers that his flip flop sandal got stuck on his gas pedal, causing him to lose control of his Jeep and hit the side of his garage, which is attached to his house.

According to state troopers, damage to the Jeep and the garage is estimated at about $80,000. The driver was charged with careless and reckless driving.
