RALEIGH, N.C. — Coats and hats will be necessary Wednesday as the coldest air of the season so far moves in to the Triangle.

Temperatures on Wednesday morning will be in the 20s, but WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said the wind chill will make it feel like temperatures are in the teens in many places.

"This will be the coldest air we've felt so far this season," Maze said. "It's really going to hurt tomorrow morning when you step out."

Temperatures are forecast to climb to about 40 degrees Wednesday, but Maze said temperatures will feel like they're in the low 30s all day thanks to the wind chill.

Temperatures will warm slightly on Thursday, but will remain chilly with lows in the 30s.

"For the next two days, bundle up," Maze said.

Following the brief blast of winter, temperatures will warm up around the Triangle with highs in the 60s by Friday and temperatures approaching 70 by Sunday.

"You could possibly break out the shorts by Sunday," Maze said.
