Triangle chefs to compete for 1981 Jeep at Cooking for a Classic
The chefs and dates for next year's tasty Cooking for a Classic foodie competitions have been announced.

Now in its third year, Cooking for a Classic brings together eight top Triangle chefs. Held over a two-week span starting Feb. 25 and ending March 11, the chefs compete against each other in a bracket-style competition, serving up appetizers, entrees and desserts at 1705 Prime in Raleigh. Votes from the public determine which chef will win a 1981 Jeep Scrambler or $15,000 in cash.
The dinners are open to the public, and the best part is that the entire competition is a fundraiser for the Lucy Daniels Center, which provides mental health services to children and their families.
Each dinner include two appetizers, two entrees and two desserts. Following each course, guests can use their devices to judge the dish, and a winning chef is announced at the end of each event.
The schedule for 2019 includes:
- Monday, Feb. 25: Teddy Diggs (of Coronato in Chapel Hill) vs. Ryan Grimm (of Watersview in Littleton)
- Tuesday, Feb. 26: Matt Hannon (of Ashten’s in Southern Pines) vs. Bo Peterson (of Primal Food and Spirits in Durham)
- Wednesday, Feb. 27: Jake Wood (of Plates Neighborhood Kitchen in Raleigh) vs. Jonathan Blackley (of Vidrio)
- Thursday, Feb. 28: Andrew Smith (of BUKU in Raleigh) vs. Orlando Jinzo (of The Leadmine in Southern Pines)
All Cooking for a Classic events will be held at 1705 Prime, located at 1705 E. Millbrook Road. The bar will open at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.
All proceeds, including beverage sales, will go to the Lucy Daniels Center.
