RALEIGH, N.C. — Crews working on the Interstate 40 rehabilitation project in Raleigh will close three of five westbound lanes this weekend between the I-40/I-440 split (Exit 301) and Person Street/Hammond Road (Exit 299).

The state Department of Transportation said the lanes would be blocked at 9 p.m. Friday and would stay closed until 6 a.m. Monday.

Backups are likely, and drivers should find another route, the agency said. The recommended route is to take the Outer Beltline to Wade Avenue for drivers passing through the zone going west.

Crews from S.T. Wooten, the contractor for the $8.5 million project, are closing lanes overnight during the week in areas between Wade Avenue and the 40/440 split, NCDOT said. Those closures run from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Information about the project is available at the NCDOT's project Web site.
