Paving for Interchange Narrows I-40 East at I-540
Work on new I-540 ramps closes two of four eastbound lanes.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Drivers traveling east on Interstate 40 near Interstate 540 face a smaller highway because crews are closing two of the four lanes so they can pave for the new interchange with the section of I-540 south of I-40.
The state Department of Transportation announced the closings on Friday. The constriction goes through 6 a.m. Monday.
NCDOT urged drivers to consider alternate ways through the area when traveling east.
