Multiple Vehicle Accident On Highway 42 Sends 5 To Hospital

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — A multiple vehicle accident on Highway 42 near the Wake and Johnston county line shut down the busy roadway Monday during rush hour and sent five people to the hospital.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said a car going east crossed the center line and hit three other vehicles in the opposite direction.

Five people were injured, according the Highway Patrol -- four were taken to WakeMed with non-life threatening injuries and one was taken to UNC Hospitals where she was listed in stable condition Monday night.

The driver who caused the accident was charged with driving left of the center line, the Highway Patrol said.

No names have been released.
