Traffic wrecks snarl morning commute for some Triangle motorists

Some motorists in the Triangle were facing traffic delays Monday because of two separate accidents, one involving a school bus.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Some motorists in the Triangle were caught in heavy traffic delays during the Monday morning commute because of two separate accidents, including one that involved a school bus.

According to authorities:

  • A school bus was involved in a wreck at Interstate 540 as US Highway 401 around 7 a.m. As of 8:45 a.m., the scene had cleared but there were students on the bus when the accident occurred. It was not immediately clear if any of the students were hurt during the incident.
  • Hazmat teams were called to the westbound lanes of Highway 64 at the Smithfield Road exit after an overturned fuel tanker spilled part of its load on the roadway. Officials closed all but one lane of the road while they worked to clean up the area. It was not clear if anyone was hurt during the incident.
