RALEIGH, N.C. — A group of traffic safety professionals who gathered Monday in Raleigh are discussing ways to bring the number of deadly crashes on North Carolina roads to zero.

The experts are looking into how to reduce or eliminate motor vehicle collisions from major interstates such as Interstate 40 and to roads in our neighborhoods.

During the conversations, experts plan to look at what other towns, counties and states are doing to curtail traffic deaths on the road.

One of the advocates is Marianne Karth from Rocky Mount.

She lost her two daughters six years ago when a truck struck their car and ended up lodged underneath the big rig.

The truck's underride guard failed.

She has since been pushing for laws to make sure trucks have improved guards.
