This might be right up the alley for families looking for something to do with kids who are tracked out of school, not in preschool or homeschooled ...

The Raleigh Downtown Farmers Market will host its annual Honey Buzztival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, at City Plaza located at 400 Fayetteville St. The event includes honey activities, apiculture and tastings to celebrate the history and health benefits of local honey.

Kids can make their own honey butter in a jar as part of the honey-butter shakedown. Beekeeper Steve Hildebrand will offer a beekeeping demonstration. And several honey vendors will have tastings.

From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., downtown Raleigh pastry chefs will compete in the "Buzztival Battle of the Sweet Tooth." Shoppers can taste their creations and pick a winner, who will be announced at 1:30 p.m.

City Plaza is just a few blocks from other popular downtown spots for kids - Marbles Kids Museum, the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences and the N.C. Museum of History.
