The Town of Cary is cautioning Wake County residents about coyotes.

There have been recent coyote sightings, a Facebook post read, and Wake County residents have heard coyote howls.

People can avoid coyotes by keeping outdoor trashcans sealed tightly and bringing pet food and water indoors. Food should never be left outdoors, and bird feeders should be kept clean and tidy.

The Town of Cary cautioned residents to keep an eye on their pets, especially at night.

If you see a coyote, leave it alone and keep your distance, officials say. Animal control officers do not usually remove healthy wildlife, but if you see a coyote or other animal that appears sick or rabid, call your local animal control.
