Tournament will honor Vance-Granville Community College basketball player

Basketball players from Vance and Granville counties will match up this weekend for a tournament in memory of a local college basketball player who collapsed and died during a game in February.

HENDERSON, N.C. — Basketball players from Vance and Granville counties will match up this weekend for a tournament in memory of a local college basketball player who collapsed and died during a game in February.

The Raymond Dunn Classic tips off Friday at 6 p.m. at the old Aycock Gymnasium on Vicksboro Road in Henderson. Games begin Saturday at 9 a.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Eight teams of local players ages 18 and up will play in a double-elimination format.

Dunn collapsed while playing for Vance-Granville Community College Feb. 20 against Guilford Technical Community College. The a 6-foot-4 inch, 190-pound forward from Henderson, played high school basketball for Norlina Christian School and Northern Vance High School.

Admission to the event is $2 and all proceeds benefit Dunn’s family and his fiancee.
