— A photo showing a Goldsboro police officer having lunch with a woman on the side of the road is getting a lot of attention.

A passerby snapped the photo while on her lunch break, and Chris Barnes shared the image on social media, causing it to touch the lives of many.

"Law enforcement does so much for our community, with a lot of it going unnoticed," Barnes wrote. "We see you Goldsboro PD. Keep up the good work."

The Goldsboro Police Department identified the officer in the photo as "Officer Rivers." The woman in the photo called WRAL and identified herself as "Michelle."

In the photo, Michelle is smiling as she eats pizza with Officer Rivers.

In a phone call, Michelle told WRAL News she is homeless and she is not used to people treating her kindly.

She said she was surprised when Officer Rivers walked up to her near the Walmart along 10th Avenue in Goldsboro on Wednesday and asked her if she'd had lunch. When she said no, he asked her if he could buy her a slice of pizza, and she said she'd be "honored."

When Officer Rivers got back with the food, he sat down next to her to Michelle and ate with her on the ground.

"I didn't expect him to sit with me," Michelle said. "He actually made me feel like a citizen. I'm glad he did what he did. I was truly touched by an angel yesterday."

WRAL has reached out to the Goldsboro Police Department for more information.
