kind of I know. Okay, we are live. This is Cathy Hand in hand with WRL Out about nine with my good friend triangle food guy. Sean. Let on. So how are you? Uh oh, wow. Are you open on Friday? As you know what day is what? These days I never wake up until I go. Great. They do a podcast today because usually Monday through Thursday or podcasts on like there's a podcast day. Is it a foodie news day? That's how I know Friday. No, because of you. Cracks me up high. Sharon. Thanks for joining us. So we're gonna be talking Hillary, we're gonna be talking a little bit about some of the top restaurant need is going on. So aren't you excited about all of the stuff? Have we gotten face to We're entering Phase two. Here we go from club. We went down to six hours now. Oh, so it's been amazing to watch these restaurant tours is they've shifted and pivoted and reinvented themselves. And and as exhausted as they must be, this is gonna be the most difficult shift that they do. One of the things that Daniel Benjamin from loose that Grace was saying to me this week was that it's like reopening Ah, hole. Like a restaurant from scratch. Yeah, there's They're starting all over you. New men used it. Concepts that would have prepare it, bring it out and and deliver it. Um, yeah, it's these guys are these thes restaurant tours are amazing. So let me jump in here with one quick request. Everybody be nice, all right? These thes folks want to please you. They are. They're doing all the course work that they have to do their studying the CDC guidelines. This is all new. Be patient. Stay away from yelp. Don't give reviews. Talk to the managers, the owners, But cut these guys some slack. Be nice to live and be appreciative. Exactly. Understand that they're gonna have to operate it, like, 50% that they're not going to be able to do some of the things they did before. Just understand. And really just just be kind. Yeah, be nice, because it's very important. That was one of the things you started your post with. The people don't know. Tell me a little bit about some of the top headlines for this week because they have a lot of stuff going on. Restaurant world it isn't, is finally it's great to be talking about exciting and new stuff. I know it's May, but can we start talking about fair food? I love fair food. Okay, This is one of my favorite things. I'm, like, super excited, like looking it up on my phone. Make sure of the dates, right? Eso things started 12 today. Deep fried, fair food 25. Well, I can only imagine what the traffic is gonna be like. Everyone. Trinity Road pulling to the fairgrounds. Yeah. It must be really driving in the fairgrounds. Roll down your window. Place your order for all kinds of crazy fair food delivered right to you, and off you go cash only. So bring your cash, bring your cash and just know they're gonna deliver it to your car for social distance. Things don't get out. You know, Bum, rush them. Question what you're doing fried Oreos. But it's it's comfort food. So 12 to 8 and will be doing it today, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, setting in next weekend and next weekend. So if you didn't want to wait in line today, there's always a chance you could do that next week. I love I was your favorite was your favorite Peyrefitte. Well, you know, deep fried means chocolate and fried stick in my mouth now, so no. Yeah. How about you? I like, um, the fried Oreos. But I also like the fried snickers. I also enjoy just basically everything. I mean, really, I enjoyed all the little deep fried treats cause there's a kind of fun. Um, yeah, for us, it was a big hit for my wife. Let me tell you, you have not lived since you walk around affair with Ken Smith because we just walk and people like, here's your fries and it's like, Oh, yeah, thanks. Like house fries knows when he's coming and they just hold the fries out there and hand it to him, and he just He's happy. We usually walk around with the bucket of cookies, the oatmeal cookies. People tell us in the comments what you love. What is your fair food go to? Because there's so many ones out there. Yeah, but what else is going on this week? So beer, Right. So we've got I don't know exactly when he's got rolling out, but they're coming out. So we got Rollie Brewing Company that, you know right now is ever o neill road in Raleigh yourself. Hillsborough Street. They're opening up a new tap room at the Arboretum. And Carrie, that's really cool. I'm excited for that. Yeah, roll that out. And then down in window, we've got the bearded be brewing coming, um, lots of beans. I love that because I've been yelling Hang out the hive. They're building. We're calling it the high. I keep thinking a busy bee in the hive with tops. I'm a deep fried kick this morning. I guess I didn't eat it. Sexist. So just like her s. Oh, I love that. That's gonna be fun. I like literally pulling Brewing is great. Oh, I see people talking. They're saying funnel cake and elephant years. Martin, the roasted corn. My husband only eats the roasted corn like he walks in as this first thing is like that before in funnel cake. You can get that this weekend at the fairgrounds. Yeah, they've got on the site for the fair. They've got a list of all the food. So this weekend and next? Well, yeah, So that you can plan. You know, how much money to bring cotton candy and things like that. So you have people are definitely excited about that. So what else do we have going on this week? That's kind of important. So we've been waiting forever. Obviously not. The ideal time to be opening up with the term food hall is slowly emerging. I think there's two that are already open, I think our opening today. So, um, so that's becoming all of that. Obviously. Stakeout, huh? There in Durham. So they've got a little bit longer to wait for the dining. Um, because there are some things you can order. Some things now. I know. I think there's a dessert shop opening on Tuesday. Innovation from Monday to teams takes it in villages, Memorial Day. Everything bagels opens today, and old North meets and provision tonight. Check. Check the site. Check their social manner where you have that way. Because things always change. I mean, there are always chances that things are gonna change on it, so definitely check it out. We talked to actually in the podcast with a dare Mueller, who was the founder of the food hall. And she was just talking about all the cool stuff that you know, All the things they had to do to to, like, create that place. It was wild. It was many years in the making eyes to create the food hall. So we're excited for them. Glad to see it coming online. So what is up next? We have been a lot going on this week. Not immediately working. Okay, So what else do we have going on those, you know, side I don't think we can get away with with mentioning some of the losses of you have this week. There was some way too many way ones. Yeah, I got a little Just got off the phone with Tom liver it. Gateway, um, lost after 35 years. They decided to close their doors oak with cafe. Of course. Got there Just there. Durham location. They're still doing the Durham Bulls. They're still doing Duke athletics That got the other four locations. So those guys, they're still rocking and rolling. But we did lose the dorm location and then Vivian Howard's boiler. I said, But there's big plans for that, though. I'm hearing rumors that you know they're going to be combining efforts with Chef and the farmer. So it's possible that they might be, you know, you know, little menu still will be available. Yes, you. She's Some of her items will bring over to the chef and the farmer. Of course, Chef in the farmers will be closed through the summer. She shared that as well, so they will, hopefully a back up in a month. Others or so somebody said things going on right now. That's why it's important, You know, support with local in any way you can. If you don't feel comfortable going in, Just do take out by gift cards. Things like that. So important. Exactly what else is up this week? Um, you know, there's a kind of my highlights. I did just get a quick update. That nomad up in Hillsboro just opened up last night. So that's the folks from visceral way over. And Durham, Uh, not that location in Hillsboro right now. They're not gonna interface to they're gonna hang out with the take out. Um for now, But that just opened up last night. So check that out. And Hillsborough wanna head up the Hillsborough this weekend? Oh, and also we've got driftwood is changing concepts. This was one that I was interested in cause I loved your foot there. Changing right. I I love, like I love their little crack on things that they give you, like, a little poor crying kind of things. You're so good. I just love of driftwood. Um, Nunzio. Ah, he's great. So So what's going on with them? They're becoming a cantina. Yes. It's gonna be driftwood Cantina, so we'll lose a few other items, but their admits new stuff as well. So, um, as you know, as you love it, it'll it'll be good. But, you know, I think all of this has caused all of us toe take a look at things pretty hard. And, um, shift in a just and, um, revenge your stuff so that I guess what we're gonna see you a little bit with with all of our restaurants, But yet drift, driftwood, Cantina. It's gonna be interesting. Excited the C. I mean, right now, they're often at the grocery items and stuff and variety of other things. I'm sorry, you guys. My son is over there and he doesn't know he sees the ring light. He's not entirely sure what's on camera. So he was just crawling Nice was crawling along the ground. Is so you're okay. Just gonna looked over like he's He's funny. He just finished his home schooling, said guys working home schooling parents out there. We gotta show respect for them on all those teachers who were working really, really hard.
