RALEIGH, N.C. — Here's what's happening in the General Assembly on Wednesday, April 3:
  • Superintendent of Public Instruction and legislative leaders are making a teacher-related announcement at a 9 a.m. news conference.
  • The House Judiciary committee will take up proposed regulations for aerial adventure courses and new duties for physicians to report suspected sexual misconduct or drug diversion by another physician to the state Medical Board (10 am., 544 LOB)
  • The Senate Commerce and Insurance will discuss allowing betting on college and professional sports and on horse racing at the casinos run by the Eastern Band of the Cherokee (2 p.m., 1027/1128 LB)
  • The Senate Judiciary committee will consider expanding the allowable medicinal uses of CBD oil and changes to child sex offense laws, such as banning certain sex offenders from online sites that cater to youths and extending the time for child sex assault victims to report crimes (2 p.m., 1124/1224 LB)
  • The House convenes at 2 p.m. and has almost two dozen bills on its calendar, include measures requiring sheriffs to cooperate with federal immigration officials, to repeal the Map Act, to reduce testing in public schools, to study ways to cut costs in the State Health Plan and to define electric scooters in state law.
  • The Senate holds a 4 p.m. voting session but has no notable bills on its calendar.
