Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — Here's what's going on at the General Assembly on Wednesday, Aug. 21:
- House Speaker Tim Moore and Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger hold a 9:30 a.m. news conference to discuss the state's $900 million budget surplus.
- Senate Appropriations discusses spending on Raise the Age, the effort to stop prosecuting 16- and 17-year-olds as adults for most crimes. (11 a.m., 643 LOB)
- Senate Health Care takes up bills dealing with foster care and telemedicine. (1 p.m., 643 LOB)
- The House has six bills on its 8:30 a.m. floor calendar, including the annual Farm Act, which has been embroiled in a fight over banning smokable hemp, and legislation implementing Marsy's Law, the new crime victims' rights amendment.
- The Senate convenes at 9:30 a.m. but likely won't have a voting session until the afternoon. The only three bills on its calendar have been repeatedly pushed back, so it's unclear whether any action will be taken on them.
