RALEIGH, N.C. — Here's what's happening at the General Assembly on Tuesday, May 29:
  • The House and Senate appropriations committees will hold a joint 10 a.m. meeting to go through the proposed 2018-19 state budget. Republican legislative leaders rolled out the $23.92 billion spending plan late Monday night as a conference report, meaning no changes can be made to it in committee hearings or during votes in either chamber, which are expected later this week.
  • The House and Senate finance committees also will hold joint meetings at 3 p.m. and the pensions committees of both chambers will meet together at 5 p.m. to review the budget.
  • The Senate Select Committee on Elections will meet at 2 p.m. A bill dealing with reworking court districts in Mecklenburg County is on the docket, but with lawmakers looking to overhaul judicial districts statewide, that piece of legislation likely could become the vehicle for another elections-related matter, such as a possible voter ID constitutional amendment.
  • A bill detailing various changes to tax laws is the lone item on the Senate calendar, and the House has no floor votes scheduled.
