RALEIGH, N.C. — With thousands of trick-or-treaters planning to fan out across the Triangle on Thursday night, it's time to think about keeping the little ones safe.

Although rain is in the forecast for Halloween, it appears that Mother Nature will give children a treat instead of a trick, and the storms won't roll through until late Thursday.

"In our generation, we just did it come rain, come wind, come whatever," one woman said Wednesday.

The rain could disrupt the annual bash on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill or parties in downtown Raleigh, so if storms rumble through, many malls and businesses are offering some alternative options, such as trick-or-treating at Crabtree Valley Mall or North Hills or a party at the Morgan Street Food Hall.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office said that, as the sun goes down and families hit the streets, the risk of crashes increases. So, authorities advised parents to grab a flashlight or glowsticks to increase your chances of being seen in the dark, stay on the sidewalk and map out your route, including going online to see where registered sex offenders live in your area.
