GOLDSBORO, N.C. — An anonymous tip led to the capture of one of Goldsboro's most-wanted fugitives on Monday morning, police said.

Following the tip, officers took Prentice Deshone Best, 24, into custody without incident at 109 N. Slocumb St. Police said the tip also led to the seizure of more than $12,000 worth of marijuana at a different location earlier in the week.

Best was wanted for felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell and deliver, as well as numerous misdemeanor orders for arrest.

Best had eluded capture since walking out of Waye Memorial Hospital after being treated for a gunshot sustained during an armed robbery. He was the victim of that robbery, police said.

Best was serving 18-months' probation after being convicted in October 2007 driving with a revoked license in Wayne County, according to state Department of Correction records. He spent nearly three months in jail in 2007 for violating probation from a hit-and-run in 2005.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts or a fugitive or other criminal activity, should call Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255. All calls to Crime Stoppers are anonymous, and callers are eligible for cash rewards if their information leads to an arrest in a felony case.
