ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — The tiny house trend has arrived in Rocky Mount Mills.

Dubbed River and Twine, the 20-unit collection of tiny homes and three one-bedroom fully furnished guest houses opens Saturday.

“They’re all individual, uniquely designed, so they’re just a different concept that people aren’t used to,” manager Bryan Holloman said.

The resort, one of 12 tiny house hotel collections in the country, is available for nightly rental and bookings.

River and Twine is the first, however, to feature 20 tiny houses built specifically for its site.

Five of the houses were built by a Chapel Hill company, and 15 were built in Ohio, Holloman said.

Each tiny home is named for a different eastern North Carolina river.

“River and Twine embodies everything we designed Rocky Mount Mills to be. It’s innovative, unique, and, most importantly, creates the opportunity for an entirely new way to experience Rocky Mount Mills,” Rocky Mount Mills Real Estate Development Manager Evan Covington Chavez said. “We are so delighted to offer visitors attending any of the amazing events we have scheduled, or just passing through our area, the chance to make a night or weekend of it and stay within walking distance of world-class breweries and restaurants.”

While the houses themselves are small, each are fully furnished and include a queen-sized bed and full showers, Holloman said. The units also have microwaves and coffee makers.

River and Twine’s opening is just one piece of news from Rocky Mount Mills. The space just announced the completion of its 4,000-square-foot event venue, Power House.

Capitol Broadcasting Company, the parent company of WRAL, bought the mill property in 2007 to develop into offices and homes and to attract craft beer brewers.
